Who We Are:
The Madera County Sheriff's Explorer Post #104,
partnered with the Boy Scouts of America, is
dedicated to the character building of area youth,
through their involvement and interest in Law
Enforcement.
The Madera Sheriff's Explorer Post has been in
service for over 30 years. Many fine Deputies and
Police Officers have come from the ranks of our
Explorer program. Our current Undersheriff, Frank
Benard, is a prime example.
Our Explorer Post and Sheriff's Department sponsors
dedicated, long-term, Explorers by paying their tuition
to a Police Academy of their choice. Just over the last
5 years we have sponsored 7 of our Explorers. Out of
those 7 we have hired 3 as full time Deputies, 2 work
full time as Police Officers for other agencies, 1 is a
Reserve Officer and the last is currently attending the
Police Academy, awaiting graduation. Our most
recent Explorer hired on for full time patrol was
Deputy Jeff Thomas, who has already obtained the
Medal of Valor for heroic service.

following...

What We Do:
Our program is intense and challenging, both
physically and mentally. We believe that if we are truly
going to give you a fair and honest example of what
Law Enforcement represents, we must stress the
importance of every aspect of what police work
requires on a continued basis.
Explorers have the opportunity to ride with Deputies,
attend Leadership Academies, Emergency
Response Training courses, and many various public
safety classes. There are numerous events and
competitions with other Explorer Posts from around
the state and country. Explorers have the fun of
competition, meeting fellow new Explorers and
travelling to new places in and out of the state.
Our Post is overseen by a team of experienced and
dedicated Sheriff's Deputies, Community Service
Officers, Office Staff and their families. All of which
volunteer most of the time to the program.
Requirements to Join:
A desire to serve in Law Enforcement as a permanent
career is not required. What is required is a strong
interest in the field of Law Enforcement, a dedication
to moral and ethical conduct, as well as a desire to
serve the community of Madera County with respect
and professionalism.
In addition, all applicants:
-Must be 14 years of age or have completed the
